The handsome home shown in the circa-1915 photograph above belonged to Orlando C. Bidwell (1862–1935), a prominent Great Barrington attorney, and his wife, Helen Higley Bidwell (1865–1933). It is located at the corner of Maple Avenue and West Avenue in Great Barrington. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bidwell were avid anglers. Mr. Bidwell was active in the local Masons, Great Barrington Fair, fire department, and numerous town affairs. The Bidwell children shown (left to right) were Gertrude, Marshall, Helen, and Margaret. Marshall Spring Bidwell went on to become a prominent classical organist/musician, first in the Southern Berkshires, and later at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh. He was presumably named after an ancestral relative born in Stockbridge who became an important political figure in Canada in the 1800s.
The Bidwell home was changed significantly during the second half of the 20th century and is presently home to Macony Pediatrics, as shown below.
