Great Barrington – The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center held a grand opening for its new performance venue, the Indigo Room, Friday, October 10 through Sunday, October 12. The new venue is located in the former Great Barrington firehouse building at 20 Castle Street, next door to the historic theater. The Indigo Room holds between 75 and 150 patrons based on the seating plan for a given show, and several hundred came out across five sold-out events plus a ribbon cutting ceremony over the weekend.

Kevin McCaffrey led a cast of comedians to open the festivities with live stand-up on Friday evening, followed by late night drag bingo with special host Miranda Moirai. The weekend continued with jazz and pop singer Ann Hampton Callaway offering an intimate performance on Saturday night, featuring a new song written specifically for the Indigo Room. On Sunday morning, family-friendly performer Terry A La Berry entertained a happy audience of young fans before the room was turned over for a ribbon-cutting ceremony open to the public. The ceremony was marked by acknowledgements from Mahaiwe personnel and a traditional lion dance performed by Guanglei Hui and Bin Zhai to bring good luck to the building. Blues singer Guy Davis closed out the weekend with a soulful concert on Sunday night.
