It’s been a long time since I last wrote for The Edge. Knowing the whole pandemic thing was coming, I just didn’t have the heart to share my news with all of you, so I went on hiatus. But now I’m here to tell you that good times are ahead! In fact, I can guarantee that a good time will be had by all who attend the Great Barrington Annual Town Meeting on Monday June 7 at 6 p.m.
And if this isn’t reason enough to attend, here’s another one: You can test your clairvoyance while you’re at the meeting! It’s simple. Check off anything below that you believe will occur during the meeting and then go to find out how well you did. Have a premonition about the meeting that I haven’t included? Feel free to post it below.
__The crowd will boo a speaker for exceeding the time limit and demand it’s time to vote on the issue.
__You will mumble out loud when you see THAT guy intends to speak again.
__Somebody will demand to know when the bridges are going to be fixed.
__The Moderator will knock the gavel loudly and chastise the crowd when it erupts in applause and cheering.
__Somebody will make a motion for a secret vote on the school budget in an attempt to hide the fact that their support of public schools doesn’t actually include financial support.
__Town Know-It-All will ask for clarification on something that is very clearly stated in the warrant.
__Tourists/second-home owners will be blamed for something.
__Somebody will lambaste the selectboard for allowing too many dispensaries to open in town.
__Somebody will make an impassioned speech and then mistakenly urge the crowd to vote the wrong way.
__Somebody will warn that the town is starting to resemble New York City.
__You will admit to yourself that someone you don’t have much respect for is actually making a valid point.
__You will catch yourself zoning out during a discussion on zoning and realize they’re the same word for a reason.
__An impulsively proposed amendment will pass by a slim margin.
__Somebody will propose defunding the police.
__You will feel a little sad when you realize the meeting is coming to a close.
