To the Editor:
I am writing today in support of Tara White’s candidacy for re-election to the New Marlborough Board of Selectmen. I have been a resident of New Marlborough since the late 1970’s, making me a relative newcomer to the town. In spite my only being here 40 years, I believe that my observations of her will be much like those whose families have been here for generations. I look forward to voting for her in the upcoming election.
For many years, Tara has shown herself to be a dedicated and tireless servant to our town. She is always going, like the Energizer Bunny. During my time as Superintendent of Schools, I was proud of the fact that New Marlborough was always well represented through her ongoing active engagement in district budget and other issues. She and the other members of our Board of Selectmen were always working toward moving forward in a positive manner, looking for solutions that would benefit New Marlborough, the district, and the other towns. I know that she continues to be active in the Superintendent’s Round Table meetings, asking the important questions and providing valuable input to the Superintendent and School Committee.
I appreciate the fact that Tara is a “home-grown” Selectboard member. I believe that it is important to know and understand the historical context before making important decisions on the board. This can only result from long-term residence in the town. She knows the back-stories, perhaps from decades ago, that may have led to the issues that we face today. Because of this, she is able to educate her fellow board members, who may not have this level of understanding. She is able to bring new ideas to the table in a way that preserves and honors the town’s history and traditions.
We are fortunate to have a team in our town government and offices that really clicks. The chemistry between the full-time town administrator/staff and the Selectboard just seems to work, and I believe that the way Tara interacts and works with others has a lot to do with this. Her cooperative style in working with other town officers sets a positive tone. Her initiative in finding ways to help our aging or financially struggling residents through the recent grant application process shows the level of her concern and compassion for our town’s residents.
I am grateful that Tara White stepped forward to serve us in what can sometimes be a frustrating job . I am excited to know that she wants to continue for another term on the Selectboard. My hat is off to her. I hope that you will join me in voting, in the upcoming election, to return her to the Board of Selectmen.
