She held many jobs until she landed as the librarian at the elementary school. She traveled Route 20 on many of snowy nights, getting her degree in library science at Westfield State College.

Run4Uns to honor late MMRHS teacher and coach

The first annual Run4Uns will celebrate the indelible mark Chris Unsworth left on the school community in the more than two decades he spent there as a teacher, coach and mentor to many.

Helen Maxwell, 79, retired teacher, formerly of Sheffield and Pittsfield

She worked as a teacher in the Pittsfield Public Schools at Stearns and Morningside elementary schools for over 40 years in grades K–4, retiring in 2004.

Helen Agar, 92, of Lenox

Helen attended Westfield State College where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in education, and worked as a first- and third-grade school teacher for the town of Lee public schools.

Sharon Milukas, 69, of Ashley Falls, SBRSD teacher

Sharon was a dedicated teacher for 40 years. She taught at Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech, and later in the Southern Berkshire Regional School District until her retirement in 2011.

Christopher Kiejna Unsworth, 48, of Pittsfield, MMRHS coach and teacher

Chris never drew a line between teaching and coaching as he considered both to be opportunities to educate and support young students.

George Membrino, 86, of Lee, educator and board member of Brien Center, Lee Porchlight VNA

For over 30 years, he served as an educational consultant to the Massachusetts Medical Society and was granted a lifetime achievement award for his commitment to continuing medical education.

Doris Grace Skorput, 99, of West Stockbridge, early childhood educator

Doris was an Early Childhood Specialist,and kindergarten consultant… she was a member of the West Stockbridge Congregational Church, and recording secretary of the Tuesday Club of Stockbridge.

Elaine Marie Bertoli, 55, of Mill River

For 10 years Elaine was Mrs. Andersen’s sidekick at Monterey School kindergarten. In the end it will be Elaine’s family, the friends she made and the children she taught who will remain her living legacy.
