Tri-Town Health offers support for establishing legislative commission on avian influenza

State Rep. Leigh Davis filed a bill in the state legislature on Jan. 15 to establish a commission to study mitigating the risks of the disease.

Donald Moulthrop, 92, of Great Barrington, a pilot and ‘Hometown Hero’

He was hired as co-pilot and flight engineer with Northeast Airlines in 1958, and retired in 1987 as captain with Delta Airlines. He also operated a popular Christmas tree farm on Silver Street in Great Barrington for many years.

Melvin Goldberg, 96, of Lenox

After leaving the military, he got his master’s degree at Columbia University and had a 60-year career in television and radio research working for Dumont, Westinghouse and ABC-TV, among others.

William H. Weigle Jr., 94, former Egremont selectman, moderator, finance committee vice-chair

His World War II decorations included the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster including battle stars for the Europe Africa Middle East, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.

Alf Pedersen, 97, of Monterey

A veteran of World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941 and was honorably discharged in 1945. A B-24 crew engineer and top turret gunner, he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
