Zip worked as an electrician for Rising Paper Mill, Barrington Electric and Berkshire Hills Regional School District, and was the wire inspector for the Town of Great Barrington for many years–he was the longest serving town officer in Berkshire County.
The $300,000 Brownfields Community Wide Assessment grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will be used to perform Phase One and Phase Two environmental assessments of several properties, most of them in and around the village of Housatonic.
The solar field below the Rising Paper Mill in Housatonic, built last year on a brownfield, is saving the town and the Berkshire Hills Regional School District each between $70,000 and $90,000 in annual electricity costs.
