The rickety-looking bridge has long been the subject of complaints and concerns of nearby residents and passersby who have questioned its structural integrity and the appropriateness of allowing large vehicles such as dump trucks and semi-tractor trailers to rumble over its pockmarked decking.
MassDOT will continue its comprehensive evaluation process and will update the public in the coming week as it analyzes the current status of the bridge.
MassDOT has implemented a traffic management plan that includes variable message boards to inform the public, including one at the intersection of Route 183 and Route 7 (Stockbridge Road). The department says the signed detour utilizes Route 7, Route 102 and Route 183 in towns of Great Barrington and Stockbridge.
The state Division of Capital Asset Management, the agency that manages the Commonwealth’s building real estate, will hold a training session on March 18 at the Firestation, 37 State Rd. from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The session is aimed at explaining the requirements for such bidding, and “how to get your company up to speed to be able to bid competitively on government work.”
