She started attending graduate school at the Conway School of Landscape Design in Northampton, where she received a master's degree in sustainable landscape planning and design. She later served an internship at the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission, where she developed zoning bylaws for the city of North Adams.
Hawver was a commercial banker for 23 years and, after retirement, ran a bed and breakfast in Sheffield with her late husband, Cliff. She now runs her own tax preparation business out of her Park Lane home.
Kilmer said he had been out of the limelight until about three years ago when he began attending meetings and raising questions about issues that concerned him.
School committee members noted that the driving force behind the merger should be greater opportunity for students and a desire "to keep education strong" in the two districts amid declining enrollments.
The monument and park were built to commemorate what Thomas Reed, who now lives in Tennessee but grew up on Boardman Street, calls an “off-world incident.”
Selectman Martin Mitsoff confirmed to The Edge that the town removed the monument and that the portion of the park on the town right-of-way had been reclaimed.
The vote follows a contentious meeting earlier this month in which the Sheffield members of the school committee had refused to appoint Bruno after interim member Tim Schroepfer had withdrawn his name from consideration.
For a variety of technical reasons, four Sheffield candidates were on the ballot for three seats. But voters were instructed to "vote for not more than two,” and those two with the most support were automatically re-elected.
Incumbent Andrew Petersen replaced Rene Wood, who, in 2015, opted not to run for re-election. Now Wood has decided to try to get back on the Selectboard again.
Flynn, a former member of the Southern Berkshire Regional School Committee who has become embroiled in a battle over whether to keep the South Egremont School open, lost by more than anyone expected to McGurn, a retired business school dean who has never held elected office in the town, by a margin of 343-112.
