Richard Wilbur . . . Urbanity and Humanity

Wilbur was a words-smith extraordinaire, and I have a special fondness for his writing. At a time when lesser poets were beating the drum for free-form modernism, he was quietly perfecting the formal approach with its intricate rhymes and traditional structures. All this served up with wit and elegance.

Valerie Rounds, 99, of Great Barrington

When her father became ill, Valerie helped her mother take care of him and, once he recovered, she went to work for Pete’s Garage then to B&D in Canaan, Connecticut, where she worked till she retired in 1972.

William L. Wuori, 91, of Sheffield and Great Barrington

Bill spent 29 years working for Eldred Stanton at the former Stanton’s Garage in Mill River. For 14 years, he operated his own auto repair business at his County Road home in Sheffield.
