UMass professor Whitney Battle-Baptiste and Du Bois' great-grandson Jeffrey Peck will emcee the event, which will also include a short film of the dedication of the W.E.B. Du Bois National Historic Site, a spoken-word performance and a dance piece.
Rep. William “Smitty” Pignatelli, D-Lenox, will serve as the game-day announcer of the Community At Bat charity softball game; and Sen. Adam Hinds, D-Pittsfield, and Great Barrington town manager Jennifer Tabakin will be the team captains.
Fifty instruments were provided to the Hudson City School District Intermediate School (grades 3-6). Each instrument is loaned to a child until they graduate high school, at which time the instrument will be refurbished and given to a new child.
