Lee’s First Giving Tree Drop-Off Event a big success

The event was a big success—collecting almost 50 Christmas trees and other holiday greens and multiple boxes of food donations and $1,700 for the Lee Food Pantry, which serves residents from several communities in the area.

Victor Biasin, 87, of West Stockbridge, co-founder of Sportsmen’s Club

Victor was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, a member of the West Stockbridge American Legion Post 254 and was one of the founders of the West Stockbridge Sportsmen’s Club.

Edward M. Comstock, 87, of West Stockbridge, retired Berkshire Hills teacher

Edward Comstock was an owner and trainer of Thoroughbred racehorses and raced throughout New England, including at the Barrington Fair and Green Mountain racetracks.

Mario Buffoni, 88, of Lee

Mr. Buffoni attended Lee schools and was a mason contractor for over 40 years. He served in the Korean War, and among other awards received a purple heart.

Leon Sarin, 88, of Great Barrington, teacher of history

His passion for teaching and his dedication to the ideals of American democracy led to active involvement in the community and politics.

George G. Cronk, 87, of Ashley Falls, Mass.

“Busie” as he was referred to by most was a great storyteller. He also enjoyed building and woodworking and was quite a handyman.

Nicholas Dapretto, 86, of Stockbridge

He was a past member of the James A. Modolo Post # 8348, American Legion and a third degree in the Knights of Columbus in Long Island.

Willard R. Curtis, 85, of Ashley Falls

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the VFW Post #6851 in Canaan. .Willard worked in construction and drove truck for Watta Crete and American Stone

Lawrence A. ‘Sonny’ Barbieri Jr., 87, of Great Barrington, co-owner of Barbieri Lumber

Lawrence was educated in local schools and proudly served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army. He was co-owner of Barbieri Lumber in Housatonic

George E. Emerson Jr., 85, of Canaan, New York, former Stockbridge selectman  

George was very active in the town Stockbridge’s political arena. He initially served as Director of Parks and Recreation and later served as town Selectman from 1969-1974.

Donald Victor, 82, community photographer and “Mystery Man”

Don Victor lived an extremely active life, and was always on the go. He was seldom without at least one camera around his neck.

Francis Joseph Majewski, 81, formerly of Housatonic, Mass.

A veteran of the Korean War Francis enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on January 23, 1952 and was honorably discharged on June 22, 1955. Mr. Majewski worked as a sales representative for Hallmark for many years.
