At least a few residents of Great Barrington were aware of Laura Secord by the early 1900s. When the Ingersoll home was first moved and then torn down during the construction of the Mason Library, structural artifacts were removed and sent to Canada for a Laura Secord exhibit.
It was, in its way, a precursor of the Civil War. The intensity of the fight for one side to preserve its wealth, power and way of life cannot be overstated.
“Dopesick” is about a drug that was sold as non-addictive, but is so incredibly addictive it is almost impossible to kick. It kills more Americans than the wars we are fighting.
The film was complicated but enriched by actually showing the real students,14 years later, after serving prison time for the consequences of their crime.
