CONCERT REVIEW: An airy spirit comes to Earth, with flutes, at Tanglewood

While audiences come to concerts expecting to hear a selected menu of scores played as written by (frequently) absent composers, here we were confronted with a totally integrated experience of instrumental and vocal sound, many spontaneously created, as well as lights, body movement, and theater.

Dalton will host a celebration of one year as an Appalachian Trail CommunitySaturday, Sept. 29, with guided hikes and a community gathering at the Kay Wood Shelter just off the trail.

THEATRE REVIEW: Berkshire Opera Company’s ‘Rigoletto’ offers depth of emotion, breadth of dramatic reality

Director Jonathan Loy has done a fine job with this piece, giving us the drama and the romance without the major forces of a large "court" to surround or frame these elements. It is due to his vision that the piece, pared down to its needs, delivers the world of Mantua so very well.

At the interfaith celebration specially choreographed dances by the Olga Dunn Dance Company will be featured, along with a musical presentation by Peter Wilson of Clinton Church.

It is nice to have professional opera back in the Berkshires and the Colonial Theatre is an ideal place for it to be performed.

Volunteers in Medicine Berkshires (VIM) will hold its gala event, “Knock Three Times and Whisper,” on Thursday, August 11, at 6:30 p.m. at Ski Butternut. The event will feature a Roaring 20s speakeasy theme, live music by the Wanda Houston Band.

At the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington, Mass., Ski Butternut and Catamount will sponsor a screening of the ski movie “Pretty Faces (2014)” on Saturday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m., which celebrates women who thrive in snow.
