In addition to performing as a soloist, Chertock serves as principal keyboardist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and has been a professor of piano at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

After earning her master’s degree in home economics from Simmons College in Boston in 1952, Mae moved to Lenox where she began her 22-year career as a home economics teacher, retiring from the Lenox School District in 1974.
