Though the Gypsy Joynt’s final business day is just over a week away on April 24, Lori Weller said the decision to close was not made lightly. “Everybody has been like extended family here. I feel wrong in a lot of ways on leaving, but I just have to go home. It’s like my wanderlust is over.”
Doughnuts hold an important place in the American psyche. One Depression-era slogan advised, “As you go through life make this your goal: Watch the doughnut, not the hole.” Thanks to John and Debbie Scalia for stepping in to fill the doughnut hole in our local economy.
