On Sunday, Aug. 18, at the Lenox Town Hall, the Maimonides Society of the Berkshires will present “Opioid Crisis in the Berkshires,” a forum exploring the local impact of the opioid addiction crisis.
Having inaugurated in 1969 and developed the school library from one box of books to a collection of over 10,000 volumes, Mrs. Underwood served as school librarian at Berkshire Country Day School for 30 years.
She was treasurer of the Mission House for 25 years and worked closely with Miss Choate, archiving all the furnishings. She developed a close friendship with her and after Miss Choate passed away, Lucy helped open Naumkeag and was the first guide there.
The program is still in formation but will include reflections from featured speakers including Rabbi Levi Volovik of Chabad of the Berkshires; Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier, D-Pittsfield; and Rev. Brent Damrow of the First Congregational Church of Stockbridge.
The hip-hop performance will be the culmination of the Mahaiwe education program’s four-day in-school residency taught by hip hop masters Baba Israel, Yako 440, Ken Fury and Grace Galu featuring students from Monument Valley Regional Middle School, Mount Everett Regional School and Herberg Middle School.
The funding is intended to help school districts with low population densities and lower-than-average incomes address fiscal challenges and take steps to improve efficiency.
