George McGurn, who chairs the Egremont Select Board, told The Edge in an interview that the town has no bylaw that addresses retail adult-use or the cultivation of cannabis. The town did enact a bylaw governing medical marijuana several years ago.
School committee member Dennis Sears of Sheffield said voting to pass over the warrant item on funding the district and actually voting against it would be a distinction without a difference. And he suggested a vote on the budget would empower the town.
The property is on a state highway and is not in proximity to any homes on Route 23. However, the site is near the intersection with Taconic Lane and Bott Hill Road, both of which are residential in character.
The deal includes safeguards to protect the public funds being invested in the projects as well as a commitment that Fiber Connect will maintain the network and offer broadband service for at least 10 years after each project is completed.

The operating total does not include the town’s contribution toward the annual budget of the Berkshire Hills Regional School District, the school committee of which has yet to adopt its own budget, though its deliberations started Thursday night.
