Alfred Nobel (1833-1896), the inventor of dynamite, was a chemist, engineer, businessman and, most memorably, philanthropist; he was also a scholar, fluent in Russian, French, English and German. Above all, he loved poetry.
The property is on a state highway and is not in proximity to any homes on Route 23. However, the site is near the intersection with Taconic Lane and Bott Hill Road, both of which are residential in character.
The village school was expected to open for the 2018-19 school year. A week before classes were slated to begin, Superintendent Beth Regulbuto decided to move the 13 students to the district’s main campus in Sheffield, citing the presence of lead as making the space unsafe for occupants.
