Historical Commission issues Phase 1 of historic resources survey in Great Barrington

This survey of a portion of Great Barrington's rich catalogue of historic buildings was a significant undertaking for the Historical Commission. It provides the town with the first of a series of reports that provide documentation of sites worthy of preserving and those potentially eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

Before retiring in 2009, he worked at the National Shrine of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge.

Aileen worked for many years as a teacher’s aide for the former Housatonic Elementary School and as a crossing guard.

Helen Oggiani, 97, of Housatonic

She actively participated in the annual All Saints' Polish picnics, at which, even into her 80s, she could dance five polkas in a row.

Henry A. ‘Bud’ Lawrence Jr., 86, of Great Barrington

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, with the 209 Military Police Company in the Far East.

Dorothy L. Cronin, 87, of Great Barrington

Dorothy enjoyed baseball, bingo, knitting, baking and especially trips to Foxwoods and Atlantic City.

Albina R. Opperman, 98, of Cohoes, N.Y., formerly of Housatonic

A friend to all who knew her, Albina may best be remembered as "The Avon Lady," having sold throughout the region for more than 40 years.

Barbara Jean Martin, 76, of Housatonic

Barbara worked at Country Curtains in Housatonic and as an operator for New England Telephone.

Garrett John Norton, 21, of Housatonic  

While at Monument Mountain Regional High School, Garrett played both varsity football and baseball. Garrett also enjoyed working on his truck and fishing and golfing with his brother Kevin. He loved life, being with friends and family and always had a smile on his face.

Roseina M. Emprimo, 82, of Great Barrington

After school she worked for over 20 years at W.T Grant Department Store until it closed in 1976. After that she worked for Kmart for 32 years before retiring in 2012. Roseina bowled in the Wildcat Bowling League and was a treasurer of the league for more than 20 years.

Ruth C. Siok, 93, of Housatonic

Ruth loved gardening and reading. At the Ramsdell Library in Housatonic, you’d be hard pressed to find a book without her name in it. She also had a tender heart for all animals and nursed many back to health.
