For many years, Mount Everett has been the little school that could in regard to the robotics competitions aspect of its STEM work. The school’s robotics team, called “Hyperspace,” has competed against teams from much larger suburban schools from towns like Lexington and Lincoln — and won.
The Mt. Everett Robotics program has been in existence for a decade. In that time, the high school team has won three State Championships and the middle school team made it to the quarterfinals at Regionals last year.
Chris Thompson, the Technology Coordinator for SBRSD, points out that a 21st century learning environment is imperative to students being able to compete on both a national and global scale. He notes that due to the ever-present nature of digital content, access to it must be easy and seamless with student access at school equally as important as student access at home.
In the regional finals, the Mt. Everett team, Team 3085 Higgs Bots, performed well enough to qualify for the World Championship in St. Louis for the first time.
