Sadly, the anticipated maestro (now a youthful 67) had to withdraw; stepping heroically into the breach was a familiar presence at Tanglewood who knows his Sibelius: English composer, conductor, and pianist Thomas Adès.
This is a very odd play based on a very curious concept and the ultimate scene is one in which changes and modifications of reality come glaringly across the stage leaving only the wonder of how it all happened lying bare naked on the floor.
Director Regge Life's vision of the play sparkles in the hands of a quartet of seasoned players, allowing
the black humor to shine through as though it was always meant to delight rather than to chill the blood.
Bigoted, mean-spirited men of business have always believed in their God-given right to rule the world they control. Seeing this play again, now, in this season of our political year, is a hysterically funny yet chilling experience.
