Alfred Nobel (1833-1896), the inventor of dynamite, was a chemist, engineer, businessman and, most memorably, philanthropist; he was also a scholar, fluent in Russian, French, English and German. Above all, he loved poetry.

He was employed as a manager at Sheffield Plastics for 20 years. After retiring from there, he joined the Moritz family at Aquatic Designs of Sheffield for over 20 years.

She was a longtime member of the Sheffield American Legion Post #340 Ladies Auxiliary as well as Wisdom Chapter #130 Order of The Eastern Star and a member of The Red Hat Society.

The paddle trip and series of riverside celebrations will follow the Housatonic River from its source in the Berkshires through Connecticut to Long Island Sound.
