Historical Commission issues Phase 1 of historic resources survey in Great Barrington

This survey of a portion of Great Barrington's rich catalogue of historic buildings was a significant undertaking for the Historical Commission. It provides the town with the first of a series of reports that provide documentation of sites worthy of preserving and those potentially eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

Helen ‘Vallie’ Nowobilski, 88, of Great Barrington

Helen worked at Great Barrington Manufacturing from 1948 to 1953 and part time at the Marian Fathers in the 1970s.

Stanley Szwyd, 95, of Housatonic

His four siblings had all been told that he had been killed during the war. His sister was in disbelief when she heard from him. His family had already held a funeral for him, believing that he had died in captivity.

Jennie Missaggia, 85, of Housatonic

She was a member of the Cove Bowling Wednesday Night League and the former Adams-Budz VFW Auxilliary.

Sabina Ullrich, 88, of North Canaan, Conn., formerly of Sheffield

She was a charter member of the Sheffield Garden Club, the Thursday Morning Club, a past member of the Sheffield Historical Society, an honorary member of the Sheffield Kiwanis and a Cub Scouts den mother in Sheffield.

Helen Oggiani, 97, of Housatonic

She actively participated in the annual All Saints' Polish picnics, at which, even into her 80s, she could dance five polkas in a row.

Alice Horonzy Guidi, 97, formerly of Great Barrington

She was employed at Searles Middle School as a secretary until her retirement in 1982. Alice also volunteered at the Fairview Hospital gift shop and the Red Cross blood bank.

Blanche J. Koprek, 94, of Housatonic

She was a participant in many events held at Marian Fathers in Stockbridge including Divine Mercy Sunday as a volunteer.
