Suspected homicide investigated in Pittsfield Update: Victim identified

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Update June 12: The victim in the June 11  suspected homicide has been identified as Ryan P. Babcock, 38, of Pittsfield. Original story below:

Pittsfield — The city’s police department is investigating a suspected homicide that took place on Tuesday, June 11.

According to a press release issued by the Berkshire County District Attorney’s office, at around 4:30 p.m. on June 11 police officers responded to a report of a man suffering from potential gunshot wounds at the 500 block of Fenn Street.

When an officer arrived on the scene, they discovered an unresponsive adult male in the driver’s seat of a vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The officer called for assistance immediately, and while paramedics tried to save the victim’s life, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Based on a preliminary investigation, representatives from the police department do not believe that the crime was a random act.

The District Attorney’s Office states that “The investigation remains active and there is no immediate danger to the public. However, as a suspect/s has not been identified, law enforcement encourages the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.”

The victim has not been identified.
