Suspect arrested in Lanesborough carjacking incident

Earl Kirchner, 64, has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Lanesborough —  The town’s Police Department has arrested a Pittsfield man in a carjacking incident.

According to a social media post on the department’s Facebook page, on Thursday, Jan. 16 at around 1:30 p.m., officers responded to the Target store’s parking lot for a reported carjacking.

The suspect is Earl Kirchner, 64, of Pittsfield.

The victim of the carjacking reported that Kirchner physically assaulted him by punching and kicking him while attempting to steal his motor vehicle.

The victim prevented Kirchner from driving away and subsequently called the police department.

While trying to take Kirchner into custody, he reportedly kicked officers.

Kirchner has been charged with felony Carjacking, misdemeanor Assault and Battery, misdemeanour Assault and Battery on a police officer.

He was transported to the Berkshire House of Corrections pending an arraignment.
