Susan Gail Weintraub, 72, long-time supporter of LitNet

Sue was universally loved, charming everyone with her sweet and giving nature. Her great wish in life was to make those around her happy.

Susan Weintraub passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 19 at her home in Naples, Florida, in the presence of her loving husband Jay, after a long battle with lung disease. Sue was universally loved, charming everyone with her sweet and giving nature. Her great wish in life was to make those around her happy. She was the best friend anyone could have and was always there to help anyone lucky enough to know her.

Her great passion in life was helping people, and she channeled that energy at Literacy Network of South Berkshire (LitNet), where she was a tutor and spent 11 years serving on its Board. She derived tremendous pleasure tutoring immigrants in the English language and passed on her knowledge to many other LitNet volunteer tutors.

Susan was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1949. A graduate of Boston University, with a master’s degree in Speech Therapy from Columbia University, Sue went on to practice in a number of settings — hospital, school, and private practice. She was devoted to her family and to raising her two boys, Scott and Michael, who were the loves of her life, along with their spouses, Kacey and Angelica, and five grandchildren (Quinn, Clara, Paige, Raquel, and Simón). During her life, Sue demonstrated unique strength and determination to live life without complaint despite many health issues. Her family and large circle of friends all admired her warmth, strength, courage and compassion. She will be missed by many in Massachusetts, Florida, and all the places across the country where her extended family lives.

Sue was laid to rest in the Osborne Cemetery in her beloved town of Alford, Massachusetts, where she and Jay built their home and lived for 20 years. Recently, they had lived in Naples and summered in Lee, Massachusetts. Donations in the name of Susan Weintraub can be made to Literacy Network of South Berkshire.
