Support American democracy

In 2024, American Democracy is imperiled by the threat that Thomas Jefferson feared above all others.

To the editor:

I agree with Thomas Jefferson’s statement that “the greatest threat to American Democracy is a government that does not respect the Constitution.”

In 2024, American Democracy is imperiled by this threat that Jefferson feared above all others.

In 2024, Donald Trump has stated explicitly that he “does not support” the American Constitution. In recent months, our rogue Supreme Court has sent shock waves through our nation by issuing rulings of dubious constitutionality ignoring or contradicting historical precedent. These rulings serve not justice but a partisan, alt-right political agenda. The Court’s ruling on presidential immunity, in particular, violates the American doctrine that “no man is above the law,” while potentially facilitating the development of an authoritarian regime in our country.

In 2024, in this time of threat to our democracy, America needs leaders who clearly demonstrate integrity, not mendacity; sanity and intelligence, not narcissistic delusion and ignorance; respect for individual Americans’ rights and freedoms; not mockery and derision; and unwavering commitment to America’s system of law and justice, not scorn for our Constitution.

In 2024, I support Kamala Harris for President, and the Democratic Party overall. I believe that Harris can be relied upon to respect our Constitution, honor our democracy, and work to equitably extend democracy’s benefits to all Americans.

Jamie Minacci has Stockbridge in her bones — please re-elect her to the Select Board

Jamie Minacci understands that a strong Stockbridge adds to the strength of the Berkshires.

Why I will not be voting for Jamie Minacci for Stockbridge Select Board

It has become evident to me that the person I so strongly supported in her first election has acted in many ways contrary to how I had thought she would.
