Stockbridge content with leadership; returns Stephen Shatz to Board of Selectmen

In a three-way race, incumbent Stephen A. Shatz easily won a second term to the Board the Selectmen, outpacing his nearest opponent by 99 votes.

Stockbridge – Meanwhile, as the Elders of Chelm 01262 contemplated their next expedition ( see accompanying article https://theberkshireedge.com/chelm-01262-solace-greatness/ ), the residents of Stockbridge – at least the 572 who managed to get out to vote, that is – were expressing their satisfaction with town leadership in balloting on Tuesday, May 20.

In a three-way race, incumbent Stephen A. Shatz easily won a second term to the Board the Selectmen, outpacing his nearest opponent by 99 votes. Shatz garnered 275 votes. Police officer Adelheid Teutsch based her campaign for the Board of Selectmen on her insistence that Stockbridge needed to own its own ambulance. Voters apparently disagreed, giving her 166 votes.

Local wine merchant Nabih Nejaime was distant third with 131 votes.

Except for a position on the Board of Health, all the other races were uncontested. Nancy E. Socha received 471 votes for Town Collector; Karen Williams, 470 votes for Town Treasurer; John A. Miller 440 votes for the Board of Assessors; R. Timothy Minkler, 470 votes for Housing Authority; Steven Knopf 426 votes for the post of Parks and Recreation Commissioner; Barbara Cohen-Hobbs, 389 votes; and Thomas Paul Schuler, 439 votes for Sewer and Water Commissioner.

In the balloting for the Board of Health, Henry Schwerner received 408 votes, and Charles Kenney earned 22 write-in votes.
