Steven was proud to be a farmer. He first started working on his family’s dairy farm in Sheffield and then for the past 13 years he worked for the Larkin & Batacchi Farm. He was an avid country and rock music fan who enjoyed concerts and outdoor events. He loved riding motorcycles, especially his Harley, to various gatherings around the country.

Steven G. Pothul, 49, of Egremont Road in Sheffield, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident this past July.

Born in Pittsfield, Mass., on Aug. 7, 1965, he was the son of Hazel Hudson Pothul and the late Edward A. Pothul. The family lived in Tyringham until Steven was 11 years old at which time they all moved together to Sheffield where he attended Mt. Everett High School in Sheffield.

Steven was proud to be a farmer. He first started working on his family’s dairy farm in Sheffield and then for the past 13 years he worked for the Larkin & Batacchi Farm, also located in Sheffield.

He was an avid country and rock music fan who enjoyed concerts and outdoor events. He loved riding motorcycles, especially his Harley, to various gatherings around the country. He also had a particular fondness for Stephen King novels and Nascar races. Above all else, Steven loved spending time with his close family and kicking back playing pool with his lifelong friends.

Besides his mother Hazel Pothul of Sheffield, Steven is survived by his wife with whom he would have celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary on July 28, Lori Soldati Pothul. He also leaves his children, Bethany and Shaun Pothul of Sheffield and Heather Sullivan of Pittsfield, Mass.; his two brothers, Edward Pothul, Jr. of Brenham, Texas, and John Pothul and his wife Sandra of Sheffield; his sister Jennifer Kergaravat and her longtime companion Charles Spirydowski of Housatonic; his two grandchildren, Cameron and Tyler, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Edward A. Pothul, who passed away on January 5, 2015.

A service celebrating Steven’s life will be held on Saturday, February 21 at 11 a.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, conducted by Rev. Charles VanAusdall. Burial will be in the spring.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 20 from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
