Great Barrington — Stephen W. Malin Sr., 80, of Dewey Way in Sheffield, Mass., passed away early Monday morning, December 22, 2014 at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington.
Born April 25, 1934 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Ogden Bailey and Elizabeth Meyers Malin. Following the death of his father when Stephen was in elementary school his family moved to Fairfield, Conn. He graduated from Fairfield High School and attended the University of Connecticut.
Stephen worked as a self-employed painter and wallpaper contractor. Included in his resume was wallpapering the Governor’s Mansion in Virginia with his son, Stephen Jr.
In 1986 Mr. Malin moved to Canaan, Conn. and later to Egremont and then Sheffield. He continued his painting and wallpaper business as well as working part time at S.J. Master Tile Store in Canaan, Conn.
In recent years Stephen enjoyed going to the Sheffield Senior Center where he could visit with friends and play cribbage. He was an avid sports fan. Two of his favorite sports were football and baseball with his favorite teams being the New York Giants and the Boston Red Sox, a rare combination.
He was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Great Barrington.
Stephen is survived by his son Stephen W. Malin Jr. of Sheffield, and his daughter Cindy Walsh and her husband Jim of Charlotte, N.C. He also leaves his sister Judy Warring of Baltimore, Md.,and his granddaughter Lily Walsh.
He was predeceased by his wife of 27 years, Lynn Thompson Malin, his daughter Judy Malin and his brothers Bob and Herb Malin.
In accordance with his wishes there will be no services.
