Stephen Farnum, 66, formerly of South Egremont

Stephen received four awards during his stay in Vietnam: the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.

Stephen FarnumStephen Mark Farnum, 66, of Elko, Nev., formerly of South Egremont, died on March 19 after a sudden illness. Born October 4, 1949, he was the son of Stanley and Hilda (Duryea) Farnum. Steve was the second son in a family of eight sisters and two brothers. He worked odd jobs in the area until entering the Vietnam War in 1969. Stephen received four awards during his stay in Vietnam: the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Elko, Nev., where he worked in the salvage industry and later for the city of Elko until his retirement in 2014. Steve is survived by his daughter, Christine Beard, two grandchildren, Ashlie Martin and Stephen Beard, and two great-grandchildren of Arkansas, his two brothers and seven sisters and many nieces and nephews. Steve was pre-deceased by his mother and his youngest sister, Christine.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday May 21 at Riverside Cemetery in North Egremont at 11 a.m., with remembrances to follow at the North Egremont Fire Station.
