Stephen A. Twiss, 73, passed away August 26, 2021 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho from respiratory failure. He was a resident of Bremerton, Washington.
Steven was born January 8, 1948 in Albany, New York to Irving E. and Norma (Smith) Twiss. He attended schools in Massachusetts, graduating from Searles High School in 1965. Steven then attended Wenatchee Valley Junior College for two years, followed by Eastern Washington State College where he received a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry in 1971.
Stephen married Rebecca Jean Fletcher in Cheney, Washington on July 21, 1985. The couple made their home in Bremerton, Washington. Stephen owned and operated Twiss Analytical Laboratories in Poulsbo, Washington from 1990 until 2013 when the company sold. The company was a drinking water and environmental testing lab. He had previously worked for Western Nuclear in Wellpinit, Washington and the Department of Ecology in Port Orchard, Washington.
His hobbies included golfing, painting watercolors, and traveling. While in Cheney, he was a volunteer for the Fire Department and the Cheney Police Department. He later was a volunteer for the South Kitsap County Fire Department. Steven was a member of the Silverdale United Methodist Church, a volunteer for the Sidney Museum and Gallery in Port Orchard, and was on the advisory board for Olympic College in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife Rebecca at the Bremerton home; three children, Lizbeth (Wyatt) Bayliss of Port Orchard, Jenny (John) Kelly of Bremerton, and Kirsten Twiss of Salem, Oregon; and three grandchildren, Molly Twiss, Abigail Kelly, and Tyler Kelly. Also surviving is a brother, Clifford (Doreen) Twiss of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, a nephew Jason Twiss of Washington, D.C., and Jennifer Knightly of Plymouth, Minnesota.
A graveside memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa, Washington. Pastor David Snapper from the Silverdale United Methodist officiated at the service. The Celebration of Life / Memorial Service at Silverdale UMC is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021 at 2 p.m.
