State awards Egremont $900,000 for Prospect Lake dam repair and construction costs

Egremont is one of two towns in Berkshire County awarded a grant for a dam project.

Berkshire County — On Thursday, Sept. 26, the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced that the state awarded to multiple municipalities $13.9 million in grants to support the repair of dams and coastal infrastructure.

According to a press release by the Healey-Driscoll Administration, the funding will be provided through the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Dam and Seawall program.

The funding will help 23 municipalities and nonprofit organizations to address repairs and to remove outdated structures.

In Berkshire County, Egremont will receive $900,000 for the repair and construction costs of a dam on Prospect Lake.

Also in Berkshire County, the town of Adams received $94,125 for a feasibility study of removing a dam at Fisk Brook.

“Last year was another reminder of how crucial it is to maintain our dams and seawalls—they are essential to our safety and infrastructure,” Gov. Healey said as quoted in the press release. “That’s why I allocated an additional $1 million for dam safety technical assistance in my budget. With the grants we’re announcing today, we are empowering municipalities to strengthen their resilience and confidently prepare for whatever storms may come their way.”
