Stanley L. ‘ Louie’ Stanisz, 89, of Housatonic, owner of Louie’s Barbershop

Over the years he cut more hair, pulled more teeth, and peeled and cut more apples then anyone would ever dare to try and count.

Housatonic — Stanley L. “Louie” Stanisz, 89, longtime owner and operator of “Louie’s Barbershop” in Housatonic passed away on February 23, 2019 at Fairview Commons Nursing Center in Great Barrington.

A native and lifelong resident of the area, Stanley was born May 8, 1929 in Stockbridge, Mass., the son of the late Ludwik and Eva Smykla Stanisz.  He was a graduate of local schools.

A veteran of the Korean War Stanley was a proud member of the U.S. Army serving from March 16, 1951 until he was honorably discharged on March 5, 1955.

Stanley was a staple of Housatonic. He owned and operated Louie’s Barbershop in Housatonic for 45 years. Over the years he cut more hair, pulled more teeth, and peeled and cut more apples then anyone would ever dare to try and count. He was a longtime school bus driver and custodian for the school district that memorialized his years of dedicated service with a tree and plaque at the former Housatonic School.

Stanley was a longtime member of the Adams-Budz VFW Post #8183 in Housatonic.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed both fishing and hunting. He loved watching golf and hockey, especially the Boston Bruins.

Stanley is survived by his son, David Stanisz, daughter-in-law Shannon Stanisz-Barton, and grandson Cameron Stanisz.

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years Gloria Ferrari Stanisz on April 18, 2018. The couple was married on May 9, 1959. He was also predeceased by his brother John Stanisz and two sisters, Harriet Bonak and Mary Koldys.

SERVICES: The family of Stanley L. Stanisz will receive friends on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington.

Francis Thomas Duke Jr., 82, of Lenox

The funeral for Mr. Francis T. Duke will be held on Friday, May 16, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Church in Lenox, with Rev. Michael Tuck officiating. Burial will be private in Corashire Cemetery in Monterey. There will be no calling hours.

A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 26, at the Daniel Arts Center at Bard College at Simon's Rock.
