Soules Fitness golf tournament raises over $3,000 for scholarship fund

“Being part of a gym, we can see how much of a need there is for people in the health-and-wellness field,” said Soules Fitness Manager Josh Reis.

Lee — Soules Fitness held its first ever fundraising golf tournament at Greenock Country Club on Wednesday, October 16. The event raised funds for a scholarship for a Berkshire County high school student who wants to get into the field of health and wellness.

“They don’t have to want to become a personal trainer specifically,” Soules Fitness Manager Josh Reis explained to The Berkshire Edge. “If they want to be a nurse, a physical therapist, or a personal trainer, or anything related in the health and wellness field, we want to give them money to help them out.”

Reis said that, for the first-ever tournament, there were 10 teams of 40 people. “We are really happy with that, especially for a golf tournament held on a chilly day in October,” Reis said. “We are hoping we can keep the scholarship growing through the year and maybe even have other events to raise funds.”

Reis said that the tournament raised over $3,000 for the scholarship fund. “Being part of a gym, we can see how much of a need there is for people in the health-and-wellness field,” Reis said. “There are not enough people in the field. We have clients at the gym from middle school, high school athletes, and even people into their 90s. We hear stories from them trying to get doctor’s appointments, and trying to get into physical therapy. Many of them have to wait for weeks, and we hear stories from them every day. I just think it’s important to get more people into the health and wellness field because the need is great.”
