Shirley Hallett, 94, of Pittsfield

Shirley was very involved with volunteer work for the Shaker Village, Elder Services in Pittsfield, and Berkshire Medical Center, where she made countless hats for newborns.

Shirley Hallett, 94, of East Housatonic Street in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, died December 28, 2021 in Pittsfield.

Shirley was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on November 22, 1927, the daughter of Robert and Effie Greenwood Brow. She was educated in the Pittsfield school system and was a graduate of the Pittsfield High School class of 1947. She attended Berkshire Business College.

Her first husband, Alfred L. White, whom she married on December 25, 1950, died on November 24, 1978.

She married her second husband, Edward B. Hallett, on May 1, 1986. He predeceased her on May 10, 1996.

Shirley’s business career was in fashion and retail, except for 15 years in the personnel office of the Potomac Electric Company in Washington, D.C.

She was an avid reader, and was very involved with volunteer work with the Shaker Village, Elder Services in Pittsfield, and Berkshire Medical Center (BMC). She knitted for the Christian Center and made countless hats for newborns at BMC. She was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Pittsfield, as well as The First Baptist Church in Pittsfield.

Shirley is survived by her sister Barbara Meaney of Randolph Center, Vermont; and nieces and nephews Robert Ireland (Rosemary) of Pittsfield, Kathy Ireland (Kit Hansen) of Goffstown, New Hampshire, Keith Ireland (Nancy) and Donna Bond of Pittsfield, Sandy Ireland of Largo, Florida; David Meaney (Wendy) of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and Barbara Ann Meaney Randolph, Vermont.

Along with her first husband Alfred White, and her second husband Edward Hallett, Shirley was predeceased by her twin sister Arline J. Ireland, nephews Michael Meaney, George Ireland Jr., and Stephen Meaney, and her longtime friend and companion Richard L. Arpante Sr.

The funeral service for Shirley Hallett will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022 at 9 a.m. at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrinngton, Massachusetts. Burial will follow at Stockbridge Cemetery in Stockbridge. There will be no calling hours.
