Sheffield Winter Farmers Market goes on for second year

Though the warm months are behind us, the Sheffield Farmers Market continues with its winter season inside Dewey Hall, which will be held each second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. until March.

Sheffield — While the seasonal warm months are gone, the Sheffield Farmers Market continues into the winter season at Dewey Hall, located at 91 Main Street. The winter season of the market is held each second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. until March, with its next market on Saturday, December 10.

According to Market Manager Josh Webb, each winter market will have at least 13 vendors, including live music performances.
The December 10 event will have various farm vendors including Mountain Falls Farm; Bow Wow Farm from Sheffield; Zinke’s Homegrown from Canaan, Conn.; and The Farm New Marlborough. “We’ve had our regular market for 22 years now, but we eventually added a winter season because it’s important to give local makers and producers a place to sell their items in the winter,” Webb said. “It’s also important for community members to get to know the people who make things right in their neighborhood.”

Each market includes not only goods from local farms, but also crafts from local artists. “The winter market has a great vibe to it,” potter Harry Levenstein from Sheffield said. “This is my second year at the winter market, and it’s good because everybody comes in and knows each other. The winter season is the perfect time to shop small, because the holidays are coming up. This community is filled with really talented artists and craftspeople who all appreciate residents who support us through this kind of busy season.”

Webb added that SNAP recipients can use their benefits by buying wooden SNAP tokens with their EBT card, which will triple the amount to use as cash at any vendor selling SNAP-eligible foods.
