Great Barrington — The Triplex Cinema has announced a special screening of the critically acclaimed film “Sing Sing,” starring Academy Award nominee (“Rustin”) and Emmy Award winner (“Euphoria) Colman Domingo. “Sing Sing” follows a group of incarcerated men as they find new purpose through an original theater piece. Directed by Greg Kwedar, “Sing Sing” is a raw, stirring reminder of the power of art to redeem.
Following the screening, Kevin Coleman, director of education at Shakespeare and Company, will sit down with The Triplex’s Natalie Love to discuss his work with real-life rehabilitative theater programs and the transformative impact of theater. Founded at Sing Sing Prison in Ossining, N.Y., in 1996, and now operating at eight correctional facilities across New York State, the Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA) program was set up to transform prisons and the imprisoned. The mission of RTA is to help incarcerated people develop life skills, build self-esteem, and express their emotions, as well as to nurture artistic talents. The ensemble cast of “Sing Sing” features many alumni of the RTA program, including some characters who play versions of themselves.
Tickets are available at The Triplex’s website or at the door on the day of the screening.
