Sara Liss Penziner, 98, a longtime resident of West Road in Sheffield, Mass., more recently of Melbourne Place in Pittsfield, died on April 28, 2016 at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Monterey, Mass., on May 3, 1917 she was the daughter of David and Rebecca Nevins Liss. She was educated in Great Barrington, Mass.
She married Jacob Penziner and raised her family of three, Bernice, Rodney and Susan, in Sheffield.
Sara was devoted to her family, number one. She enjoyed fashion, gardening, sewing and knitting and most of all, exercising. She drove her white Jeep to Simon’s Rock and Berkshire South for many years for her exercise classes, until she was 92 years old. Her beauty and strength were admired by all.
She is survived by her daughters, Bernice Bornstein of Boynton Beach, Fla. and Peabody, Mass., and Susan Lipton of Pittsfield; her grandchildren, Eric, Toni and Julian Bornstein of Cambridge, Mass., Robin Bornstein of Byfield, Mass., David, Julie, William and Rachel Bornstein of Peabody, Mass., Jeffrey Lipton of Boston, Michael, Christine, Alexandra and Emery Lipton of Pittsfield, Scott Penziner of Portsmouth, N.H., Timothy, Suzanne and Seth Penziner of Wakefield, Mass., and Virginia Penziner of Peabody, and her brother, Joseph Liss of Naples, Fla.
She was predeceased by her husband Jacob, her sisters, Anna Goldberg of Longmeadow, Mass., and Milly Nevins of Harrison, N.Y., and her son Rodney Penziner of Housatonic, Mass.
The funeral for Sara Penziner will be held on Tuesday, May 3rd at 11 a.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington, conducted by Rabbi David Weiner. Burial will follow at Ahavath Sholom Cemetery in Great Barrington.
