Samantha Tyer, 45, of Pittsfield

She loved her children and husband, above all, and was an avid supporter of autism awareness and of the Special Olympics, in which her son participates yearly.

Samantha Abigail Tyer, 45, of Pittsfield, formerly of Ashley Falls, died unexpectedly Wednesday at home.

Born Aug. 16, 1972, in Great Barrington, Samantha was full of life and had an excellent sense of humor. She was a skilled registered nurse, having received her education at the St. Mary’s Nursing School in Waterbury, Connecticut. She also held an associate degree from Berkshire Community College and had completed her high school education at Mount Everett Regional School in Sheffield.

Samantha was a self-proclaimed “geek” and loved all things sci-fi. She loved her children and husband, above all, and was an avid supporter of autism awareness and of the Special Olympics, in which her son participates yearly. Samantha was a kind, caring and patient individual and went out of her way to help anyone in need.

Samantha leaves behind her loving husband, William Tyer III; her son, Gus; two daughters, Sarah and Madison; her mother, Sara Swain of Ashley Falls; her sister, Carrie Swain of Pittsfield; her aunt Lois and uncle John Martin of Sheffield; her aunt Eleanor and uncle Russel Funk of Ashley Falls; her aunt Caroline of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Samantha was predeceased by her father, Norman W. Swain.

A memorial service for Samantha Tyer will be held Thursday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Aug. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Olympics in care of the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
