Sadie Celine Kirkbride, 96, of Sheffield, died Tuesday April 12, 2016 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Sadie was born in Housatonic at her family home on April 22, 1919 daughter of Paul and Alice (Boldyga) Krzynowek. Sadie attended local schools and was a graduate of the former Searles High School class of 1936.

She married Donald Kirkbride on November 28, 1940 at All Saints Church in Housatonic. Sadie and Donald moved to Westport, Conn., and returned to Housatonic five years later. The couple was married for 58 years before Donald predeceased her on November 6, 1998. Sadie worked in the office at Rising Paper Company for 24 years before retiring in 1984. Sadie loved gardening and flowers, and cooking — especially baking at which her recipes are legendary. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends especially all her nieces and nephews, she also loved crafts and knitting and was a 4-H leader teaching knitting. She greatly enjoyed her last 10Â years living in the Sheffield community where she made many new friends. Sadie was a communicant of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish Corpus Christi Church in Housatonic.
Sadie is survived by two daughters, Diane Totty of Baton Rouge, La., and Ruth McCormick and husband Attorney Edward G. McCormick of Great Barrington; one sister, Alice Magdalenski of Housatonic; four grandchildren, Brian Totty and his wife Shernaz of Los Altos, Calif., Jeff Totty of Berkley Lakes, Ga., Matthew McCormick of Wilmington, N.C., and Attorney Kathleen McCormick of Housatonic; one great granddaughter, Carina Daver-Totty of Los Altos, Calif., two step great grandsons, Jai and Rohit Padmakumar of Los Altos, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Sadie C. Kirkbride who died April 12, were held on Friday, April 15, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish Corpus Christi Church, Housatonic with the Reverend William P. Murphy pastor officiating. Burial followed in St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Housatonic.
