Sabina M. Ullrich 88, formerly of Sheffield, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at Geer Nursing and Rehab Center, North Canaan, Connecticut. She was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Great Barrington, the daughter of the late Boleslaw and Jozefa Harubin Palivoda. She attended local schools and was a 1948 graduate of the former Searles High School. She also took computer courses at Berkshire Community College. Sabina worked as a secretary at Mount Everett High School for 25 years, retiring in 1990; she also worked in the Registry of Deeds in Great Barrington from 1948–55. Her husband, George V. Sr. whom she married Oct. 3, 1954, in the former All Saints Church in Housatonic, predeceased her Aug. 9, 1995. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church, Sheffield. She was a member of over 50 years and a past president of its women’s club. Sabina was a watercolor artist with some paintings hanging at the former Limey’s in Sheffield. She was a charter member of the Sheffield Garden Club, the Thursday Morning Club, a past member of the Sheffield Historical Society, an honorary member of the Sheffield Kiwanis and a Cub Scouts den mother in Sheffield. Since 1996 Sabina spent her winters in Daytona Beach where she attended the Daytona Art League.
She leaves three sons, all of Sheffield: George V. Jr. and partner Sandra Holst Grubbe, Joseph P. and wife Brenda, and Stephen K. and wife Judy; five grandchildren: Krista, Rachel, Victoria, Stephen C. and Cassie; and two great-grandchildren: Jacob and Mason. Besides her parents and husband, Sabina was predeceased by brothers Stephen and Joseph John Palivoda, sister Victoria Wincek, and grandson Ryan W. Ullrich.
Funeral services for Sabina Maria Ullrich will be held Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Church with a Liturgy of Christian Burial with the Rev. Peter Naravjo officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of the Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home.
