Ruth L. Wuori, 97, formerly of Sheffield

In accordance with Ruth’s wishes, no public services will be held; her family will gather privately to celebrate her life.

Ruth L. Wuori, age 97, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024, in Florida, where she had resided for the past three years with her daughter Linda. Born on March 7, 1927, in Passaic, N.J., she was the daughter of Charles G. and Hazel (Pratt) Stevens.

Ruth was raised on the family farm in Sheffield and graduated as valedictorian from Sheffield High School in 1945.

On June 16, 1946, Ruth married William L. Wuori. They shared nearly 69 years of marriage before William’s passing on June 10, 2015. Together, they built their home in Sheffield where they lived for 54 years.

In addition to raising her nine children, Ruth was a caregiver for some of her grandchildren. She held various jobs throughout her life, including positions at Canaan National Bank, Adams Supermarket, Wuori’s Garage, and driving for local car dealerships.

Ruth delighted in playing card games, scrabble, and bowling and completing jig-saw puzzles. She was an avid square dancer and loved to travel, garden, and visit the casino, which brought her particular happiness.

Ruth is survived by her nine children: Linda (Paul) Delmolino of Winter Haven, Fla.; Gail (Leonce) Roger of Great Barrington; Adele Reilly of Sheffield; Marcia (John) Haley of Chambersburg, Penn.; Elaine Ciochon of Sonoma, Calif.; Robert (Sharon) of South Hadley, Mass.; Thomas (Tracy) of Mill River; Richard of Sheffield; and Laurie (Nicholas) Pshenishny of Pittsfield. She was a proud grandmother of eight, Michael, Rebecca, Rachel, Travis, Bryanna, Alana, Zachary, and Kyle, and a beloved great-grandmother to eight. Ruth is also survived by her sister Betty Pratt of Sheffield, and was predeceased by her brothers, Walden and Harold Stevens.

In accordance with Ruth’s wishes, no public services will be held; her family will gather privately to celebrate her life. Condolences may be made through the website of Birches-Roy Funeral Home.

There will be a gathering to celebrate the life of Maureen Johnson Hickey (1938-2025) at the Berkshire Botanical Gardens in Stockbridge on Saturday, June 28th from 1:00-3:00pm.

Howard Trombley, 77, formerly of Great Barrington

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 26 from 4 to 7:00 p.m. at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 27 at 10 a.m. at The First Congregational Church, 251 Main St., Great Barrington. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Great Barrington.

Janet C. Hutchinson, 80, of South Egremont

A celebration of Jan’s life will take place Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 3 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting of South Berkshire. All are welcome to join in celebrating Jan’s life, followed by a reception.
