Robert George Meaney, 81, of Lenox died Sunday at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington. He was born in North Adams on June 12, 1941, the son of Thomas and Louise Dach Meaney.

Bob attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School in 1958. Upon graduation, Bob enlisted in the Navy where he served four years on a NORAD ship. After the Navy, Mr. Meaney spent over 45 years working for Verizon, holding positions as an in-home installer and pay phone technician before retiring as a lineman.
He and his wife, Elizabeth Ann Burke Meaney, met in January 1968 while they were both working for the New England Telephone Company. They were married September 28 that same year and cherished each other’s company until Mrs. Meaney’s sudden death 48 years later.
Robert Meaney is survived by his three children, Todd M. Meaney of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Erin E. Meaney of Pittsfield, Shaun R. Meaney of Lenox, and his grandson, Justin C. Meaney of Denver, Colo.
A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, March 23 at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Cemetery in Lenox. Calling hours at the Roche Funeral Home will be Wednesday, March 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to Hospice of the Berkshires or Fairview Commons Nursing home in care of the funeral home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240.
