Richard “Richie” Evans, 66, of Great Barrington, passed away suddenly on October 2, 2019. He was the son of the late Fred Evans and Lois Howard. He was predeceased by his wife, Roberta Evans, three brothers, Earnest Evans, James Jones and Willie Howard, and one sister Gloria Turner, all of Union Point, Ga.
He leaves behind a sister, Freddie Mae Andrews of Decatur, Ga.; three brothers, Luther Howard (Louise), Tommy Lee Evans, Vinson Evans (Mary Ann), all of Union Point, Ga.; two sons, Joshua Granger of Millbury, and Andre White of Holiday, Fla.; four daughters, Bernie VanAlstyne (Dave) of Pittsfield, Chawanda VanAlstyne of Albany, N.Y., Tonja White of Charlotte, NC, Angela Williamson of Fairfax, Va., a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, longtime friends Leila “Tiny” Wilson and Elijah Butcher, and a host of friends.
Mr. Evans recently retired from Interprint in Pittsfield, in January 2016 and was a longtime employee of the former Rising Paper Mill in Housatonic. He was a member of The Risingdale Café and Jones’s softball teams. He loved spending time with family and friends in Great Barrington and the surrounding areas. He also enjoyed cooking, music, mowing lawns and playing the drums.
SERVICE: A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 2nd from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. with repast to follow, a few words will be spoken by Carol Ivory at The Polish Falcons, 32 Bel Air Avenue, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
