Removing or destroying legally permissible campaign signs is un-American and a violation of the First Amendment

Recently, there has been a rash of removal and destruction of my campaign signs, in Great Barrington and Housatonic. That behavior is reprehensible and un-American.

To the editor:

I am a candidate for state representative for the 3rd Berkshire District.

Like all the other candidates, my campaign has paid for with donations and my volunteers have legally placed lawn signs supporting my campaign, all in legally permissible locations. Recently, however, there has been a rash of removal and destruction of my campaign signs, in Great Barrington and Housatonic. That behavior is reprehensible and un-American. The placement of campaign lawn signs is free speech protected by the First Amendment. The removal and destruction of signs violates that fundamental Constitutional right, as well as the laws protecting personal property, and it reflects negatively on the opposing candidate(s) who support and condone such behavior.

A response to Denny Alsop’s Letter to the Editor

Sadly, this is just the latest example of the lies and distortions that the small group of opponents of a well-planned project that will benefit every single taxpayer in Stockbridge will go to with their opposition.
