Recognizing achievement (and longevity) in Egremont

State Rep. William "Smitty" Pignatelli honored Rachel Shaw with a House of Representatives citation and plaque on her 99th birthday. Shaw started the town Council on Aging in the 1970s.

EGREMONT — It was a time to honor those who are with us and those who are not. Under a bright sky and a pavilion on Wednesday at French Park, the town’s Council on Aging paid tribute to some of Egremont’s finest citizens.

The highlight of the event, which included lunch, was when state Rep. William “Smitty” Pignatelli honored Rachel Shaw with a House of Representatives citation and plaque on her 99th birthday. Shaw started the town Council on Aging in the 1970s and served as its chair for many years. Her son, former Egremont Police Chief Brian Shaw, was also present. Pignatelli also honored current COA chair Bruce Bernstein in the same way.

Also honored were:

  • The late Genis Melendez-Delaney and her husband Chet (honored by Joyce Frater)
  • Council on Aging Secretary Eve Goldberg (honored by Ginger Bosco)
  • COA member for former Planning Board chair, the late Helen Krancer (honored by Marj Wexler)
  • The late Sarah Keene, former owner of the Egremont Village Inn (honored by Georgette Kinney)
