Updated Friday, Aug. 4 9 p.m.: According to Police Chief Storti, the worker died due to his injuries. In an email, Chief Storti wrote that a railroad track repair vehicle struck the worker around 10 a.m. The worker’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

Great Barrington — The town’s Police Department, along with the State Police and the District Attorney’s Office, are all investigating an accident that took place during the morning of Friday, Aug. 4.
According to Police Chief Paul Storti, a railroad worker who was working on the railroad tracks was injured by a piece of railroad repair equipment.
Chief Storti wrote via email that he did not have any additional information, including the exact location of the incident.
However, he wrote that the department was assisted by the town’s Fire Department, Sheffield Fire Department, and Sheffield Police Department, who all assisted with the extrication of the injured person due to the remote location of the incident.
