To the editor:
The depraved spectacle we are witnessing in Washington, D.C., reached a new low last night when Trump basically cut the knees out from under both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and our allies in NATO, the alliance that has kept world peace since World War II.
The behind-the-scenes deal Trump is signaling with Putin, the megalomaniacal leader of Russia, is reminiscent of the 1939 Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, which carved up Poland between Russia and Germany.
The coming Putin-Trump Pact will sell out, divide, conquer, and exploit Ukraine just as surely as Stalin and Hitler carved up Poland. Putin wants land for a new evil empire; Trump wants American companies to steal Ukraine’s mineral resources.
Of course, Republicans in the Senate and Congress are too busy begging Trump to exempt their states from the ravages of Elon Musk to take their oaths of office seriously, let alone to stand up for our allies abroad.
So, it is up to Americans like us, from all walks of life around the country, to save ourselves, our democracy, and to ensure the world that America’s word is its bond.
